6 VISUAL ART PROJECTS CREATED IN THE FRAME OF THE VISUAL EUROBAROMETER ‘07
AWARDED EX-AEQUO
During the opening ceremony of the exhibition "NEIGHBORHOOD – daily practice of social values" were announced
the winners of the 2007 edition of the VISUAL EUROBAROMETER, project financed by the European Union, Europa Fund 2006.
The five members of the international jury: Teodor Graur (artist, curator Gallery HT003, Bucharest, RO), Dimitri Konstantinidis (curator, director of the Association Apollonia, Strasbourg, FR), Mihai Oroveanu (curator, general director MNAC, Bucharest, RO), Daniel Sotiaux (curator, head of the Delegation Wallonia Brussels in Romania, B), Agnieszka Wolodzko (curator Laznia Center for Contemporary Art, Gdansk, PL) selected 6 projects out of the 28 presented in the exhibition and decided to grant ex-equo distinctions in the value of 500 Euro for each of the following projects:

• NEIGHBORHOOD AMBASSADORS – author Alina Bondrea , Cluj (photo series, 12 digital prints 33 x 50 cm, 2007). Icons of the neighborhood “the ambassadors” are objects or products that can be borrowed unconditionally and are to be returned quickly. |

• B 07 ROU – author Emanuel Borcescu , Bucharest (installation – video, DVD, 2' 16“; slideshow photo CD, 2007). The installation mocks the primitivism of the obsessive way of marking the parking place, underlines the absurd of the situation and the confusion in understanding public space. |

• VICINITY AS COMPETITION – author Diana Duta , Bucharest (installation – 12 photo series A6, digital animation, DVD, 32”, 2007). The artist illustrates in animation the contemporary phenomenon of competing with neighbors in exhibiting the welfare. |

• FIVE TIMES BUCHAREST – author Olivia Mihaltianu, Bucharest (3 channel video, DVD, 20', 2007). The video presents five types of relations with the urban space by means of five characters illustrating representative types of contemporary urban society. |

• THE WALL – author Bogdan Rata, Bucharest & Baia Mare, (installation – wall 200 x 200 x 20, various objects, 2007). The work opens a new approach of the differences in education, concerns and interests that forced homogenization imposed by collective dwelling could not overcome. |

• EVICTING THE GHOST – author Studio basar (Alex Axinte , Cristi Borcan ) Bucharest (Installation – 4 digital prints 90 x 90; model 90 x 45 x 25; 2007). Studioba sar launches a communication campaign capable to highlight the situation of the families evicted from nationalized housed now returned to their rightful owners. The presentation extensively documented underlines the lack of involvement and participation in neighborhood problems. |
